About The Bach Designers
The Bach Flower Co. is a floral studio dedicated to an industry
and a craft that we absolute love - we are third generation floral designers who feel blessed
to be able to work with fresh blooms from around the world.
Many years ago my great grandfather Richard Evald Stomberg spent his days in the same manner that we do. He was indeed one of the larger flower houses serving Rhode Island from his place on Wellington Avenue in Cranston, RI (before route 95 was built).
Unfortunately I did not have the privilege of knowing him as he passed away in 1965 three years before I was born. He would be the first generation in my family, a family loaded with creative people, to design and sell fresh flowers.I have only the stories passed on to me and a few images given to me.
The name of his flower house was "R E Stomberg Inc. Florists."

Years Ago...
A bygone era when they dressed the part.
All those years when we ourselves delivered and installed weddings in near full tuxes.
The days when Gale and I would be sweltering in the summer heat while fully dressed servicing a wedding, cutting the ends off of a cloth aisle carpet to use as kerchiefs to wipe our brows.
Stomberg...
This one powerful image handed to me by my father instilled the desire to put forth our business plan in the most professional manner possible.
What I would give to have one moment in that studio designing with those old school gladiolas, football mums, and carnations!

My grandmother, Richard's daughter, would become the second generation in my family to work with and design fresh flowers. Her name was Wilma Lillian Stomberg and she would marry my grandfather Robert Lawrence Bach. She was Swedish and headstrong. Absolutely insisted on enjoying life, and was a creative spirit. She was an artist in every area of her life.
We affectionately called her "Moo," as did all of our friends.
The term of endearment is a story for another time!
She would settle in the Eden Park section of Cranston, RI, a section many called "Sweden Park" years ago, and would begin her floral shop in a shed in her back yard. Eventually she would open her own place on Rolfe Street and call it Wilma's. She remained creative with a love for the coast of Rhode Island until the end of her life.
Wilma's - "Moo"...
The spitfire in my family who would carry her father's torch in floral design and encourage me to do the same. Moo is pictured here with her father Richard (on the right).

The art of floral design skips a generation in my family.
Although many in my family have these creative abilities in so many ways, especially my father and my uncle (his brother), they never became involved in my industry of floral design. My father became a butcher by trade, had his own meat market, and my uncle went into hair, had his own salon. Had they embraced floral design the way we did I would have been a fourth generation floral designer. While I did have the fortune of being exposed to the creative persuasions in my family, painting, wordwork (carving) and stained glass among them, I was not fortunate enough to be around their floral shops or studios. I came into this by accident!

Naturally...
From the first design I made I carried the spirit of wanting to excel as well as the spirit of thinking outside of the box. I have had the honor of standing next to giants in my industry and have always walked away with nothing less than inspiration that to this day quenches my creative thirst.
I began working in a high-volume shop to kill some time and the irony is that the owners of this place introduced my parents to each other when all of them were in high school together. The wife grew up next door to my father. I absolutely loved it, loved the flowers!
I knew within thirty days of working this part time "job" that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. The floral designer was born, and Moo wholly encouraged it.
After a year or two of learning I would take over a shop called "Twigs" that was closing its doors. My wife and I loved the name and agreed to keep it. We gave our hearts and souls to it, and this craft. It is a cornerstone in the Rhode Island floral industry and has enjoyed its place there for 40 years.
Bach's - Mia & Bobby
We are unique when it comes to fresh flowers, consulting, and design. Our way
of adding personal touches comes straight from our hearts back by an unwavering dedication to perfection. It's not about replicating a style as much as it is about translating a sentiment, a feeling, or a moment to the blooms and design.

Since day one we have raised the bar in our art as floral designers,
especially after my wife left her profession in management and came into the design space. Her talent in color theory, and her eye for what works and what doesn't work and her constant evaluation and reevaluation for how we do things has propelled Twigs into a place we never dreamed of all those years ago when we took over that little failing shop.
The Bach Flower Co. is a celebration of the time and dedication devoted to moving and pushing forward in a never-changing industry and into the place where floral design continues to thrive and continues to be appreciated .
It is an extension of all that we learned and our continued desire to excel at floral design while offering not only premium blooms but designs that scream the same, as well as luxury.
We can think of no better way to celebrate our industry than trying to stay at the forefront of it with a never-ending growing reputation for never settling for less.
